Regional Highlights

Asia is the fastest growing and changing market for commodities in the world.

All of the Group's platforms operate in the Region.

We have 16 main offices across 7 countries.

As our originating and processing functions in the region grow, we are investing in more strategically located logistic assets.

About Asia

Urban populations are growing rapidly in Asia, creating a change in consumption habits. There is increased demand for meat, foodstuffs, textiles and consumer goods. This impacts the need for many products that Louis Dreyfus Company originates and merchandizes.

Strong global demand for edible oils, soaps and biofuels is driving our palm oil business in the region. Rising protein consumption is fueling demand for output from our crushing plants, notably in China, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Our strengths in this Region

We are active in the domestic trade of corn, sugar, wheat and cotton in China, grains in Australia and cotton, grains, oilseeds and sugar in India. Our distribution and import activities in the region include grains, sugar, oilseeds and cotton. We export grains from Australia to destinations including Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

We are responding to rapidly developing flows between Asian countries, as well as exports to other global locations, especially in palm oil.

We have been developing our origination, processing and logistic capabilities in the region with a number of significant investments in recent years. This includes pioneering mergers and acquisitions in the Oilseeds, Palm, Grains, Sugar, Juice, Coffee and Metals platforms.

  • 2 coffee warehouses in Indonesia
  • 6 cotton warehouses in Australia
  • 3 grains storage facilities in Australia
  • 2 oil refineries in India

Growth in the region has been driven through these investments as well as our deep understanding of the unique complexities inherent in each country.

Sustainability story

The M/V King Milo, used by our Freight Platform, is the first vessel to be produced by Oshima Shipbuilding under their new design, ECO Panamax Bulker Series. The vessel promises to reduce fuel consumption through the incorporation of a new optimized hull form and the adoption of various energy saving devices. The vessel’s energy consumption is rated at 20% lower than new standards adopted by the International Maritime Organization's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) in 2011. As a result of the vessel’s lower energy consumption, carbon dioxide and sulfur emissions are also significantly reduced. This environmentally friendly design has received the highest Environmental Awareness Certification by classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.
